Dental Crowns
If your teeth are in need of some repair, a dental crown might just be the best solution for you!
What are dental crowns?
A dental crown is a topper or cap that is placed on top of a tooth that is damaged, cracked, or decayed. It is permanent and fits perfectly over your natural tooth. Crowns are usually made out of strong and long-lasting materials such as gold, porcelain, acrylic resin, or a combination of some of those options.
Dental crowns in Mt. Kisco are a great form of restorative dentistry because they can fix teeth that have been damaged or weakened. The crown strengthens your tooth and acts as a support for your tooth as well. Plus they can have cosmetic benefits by covering teeth that are stained, yellowed, or misshapen in any way.
Are dental crowns restorative or cosmetic?
Dental crowns are a bit of both! In our dental office in Mt. Kisco, we categorize crowns as restorative but that doesn’t mean they don’t help improve the look of your smile. In fact, many people find that crowns can help cover up parts of their teeth that they’ve always felt insecure about.
What does the dental crown process look like?
When you first meet with your dentist you will receive numbing around the tooth so as the decay is removed you won’t feel any pain or discomfort. All damaged or decayed bits of the tooth will be removed and then your tooth will be professionally cleaned and shaped.
Then we’ll get an imprint of your tooth so we can make a customized crown that will be a perfect fit for you. You’ll be given a temporary crown while you wait for your permanent crown to be completed. Then when your crown is finished the dentist will cement it to your tooth.
How long does it take to get a dental crown?
It can take two to three weeks from start to finish but CEREC® technology allows some dentists to create a personalized dental crown in a matter of hours.
